When deportations started, his father was a soldier in the Turkish army. The whole family was deported to Ras-el-Ain. His mother, brothers and sisters were present when Kourds attacked the caravan. Most of these unfortunate people were killed or wounded. Yeprem succeeded in fleeing to a Kourdish house. He was kept there for seven years doing the work of a shepherd.
