Her native village was surrounded by Kourds in the first days of the Armenian massacres, but the village people resisted against them during the first days. As they had no supply for their guns they were beaten and Kourds occupied the village, killing men, women and children. Several girls were married by Kourds, some sold as slaves.

However, Zanazan and her sister Anoosh were taken as servants to a Kourdish family and they remained nine years among the Kourds.

She remembers that her brother was taken to the Turkish army in Erzeroom and she believes that her brother is to be found in Russia.

When Armenians began to emigrate to Syria, Zanarzan and her sister went to Diarbekir and from there they came to Aleppo.

Having no relatives and being unable to support themselves, they were taken in by us.
