Her father was killed in the beginning of the Armenian massacres. Her mother was deported. Elmas herself was given to a known Kourdish family who had promised to protect her during the deportation.

            Elmas lived eight years among the Kourds. She never got any news from her mother. After the Armistice Armenians had come to her village. Those who knew her advised her to flee from the Kourdish house. She was ready to do so but she had to wait for an opportunity. Once when the Kourds were not at home she fled to an Armenian family. Elmas was kept there until she could be sent to Aleppo.

            She came to us on September 15th.

As far as we know she has no relatives.

            Later she found her relatives and went to live with them.
