The parents died before the Great War. Hamgash and Artin
were staying with their grandmother. When the order of deportation came, they
were with many other Armenians driven in the direction of Deir-el-Zor. After
much trouble the caravan reached Arabkir. There the grandmother disappeared.
The two boys were placed in a Turkish orphanage, where they stayed but one
month, Then they were sent to different villages and became slaves of the
Turks. After many years Hamgarsh fled to the village, where his brother was.
Some years passed. They were always longing to come back to their own people
and one day they succeeded in fleeing with some muleteers to Aleppo, where they
soon found our house.
