Garabed, with his parents, three
brothers and one sister, were exiled to Deir-el-Zor. On the road his sister
overwhelmed with fatigue and hunger died. The two brothers were lost and one
was killed. He with his parents was forced to continue the terrible journey and
reached Ras-el-Ain. After a few days breathing space they were again pressed
forward as far as Khabur, where Garabed lost his parents and he, himself
remained eleven years in a Tchetchen's house working for him. One time the
tribe with whom he was living came near Deir-el-Zor, there Garabed found a
chance to flee to our agent who sent him to us.
