Surpoohi's father was killed in the beginning of the deportations. Her mother was married to a Kourd from their native town, who allowed her to bring her children to his house to be saved and kept away from the deportation. They have been three years in the Kourd's house, after that they fled to a Turkish family and remained four years there, being servants of this family.

            When permission was granted to Armenians to leave Turkey caravans were passing their city. They asked their master to let them go. The Turk accepted and paid the travel expenses for them. As their mother is in very poor condition we took Surpoohi and her brother Vahan in our house.
