During his father's service in the Turkish army, the
whole family was deported to Afion Kara-Hissar. After a few days rest they were
driven further on to Konia and after months of wanderings they reached the
district of Nisibin. A Kurd from the village Derna took Vartan to his house and
kept him there. He never received any news from his parents. Vartan had to work
very hard in order to pay for his daily bread. He tried to flee three times. He
always was caught and brought back to his master. Of course he was punished
very cruelly became he was considered as a slave. The forth time he had more
luck in fleeing, his owner was absent. He fled at night and reached Hassitshe
after three days wandering. Here he met our agent who sent him immediately to
Aleppo.
Left to join his father in
Bulgaria February 23, 1928.
