When the deportation started his mother gave him to a Kourd in order to safe his life. He does not know what happened to his mother.
Nishan was considered as a member of the Turkish family. When he grew up and he was old enough to work, he became a shepherd of his master.
When Armenians were allowed to travel, one of his relatives asked the Turk to let her take Nishan to Aleppo. The Turk refused at the beginning but when his relatives went to the government, the latter gave Nishan and so they came together to Aleppo.
Nishan was received in the Near East Relief orphanage.
