Artin's father died before the war. In the beginning of the deportation he was exiled with his mother to Roonas near Mardin. At a short distance from Roonas the caravan of deportation was attacked and robbed by Kourd and Arabs. Most of the people were killed, some kept as slaves others married to Kourds and Arabs and only a few continued their way.
Artin, however, with his mother were not hurt and went on to Mardin. They stopped at a village named Khatshoog and remained there nine years. Artin became the servant and farmer of a Kourd. Once he was sent to Mardin on business. There he met the Armenian priest and asked him to help him on his escape. The priest is a agent of us and sent him to Syrian territory. Later our Hassitshe agent met him and sent him by automobile to our Reception-house.
