Garabed's parents died when he was a
little child and he came with his grandmother on the road. But the old woman
soon died and he remained helpless among the Arabs. Some Turks kept him during
seven years. His work was to supply the want of water for the Turks' houses in
this way he was very useful for his master. After that he passed four years
with an Arab. During that time a priest in Mardin had told him many times that
he was an Armenian boy and there are orphanages in Aleppo, where he could find
his relatives or could learn a trade. At last he was persuaded and was sent to
us.
