Karekin
was exiled from Urfa to Mardin, there his father fell ill and died. When his
mother was compelled to go further on with the caravan, she in order to save
her son's life, gave him of her own accord to an Arab woman. In the course of
eleven years only a vague and distant impression of his mother remained in
Karekin's memory, but yet, as he grew up, he managed to make his way to get the
track of his mother. One day, worn and exhausted, he reached Hassitshe and
knocked at the door of our agent, who took him under his charge, then sent him
to us.
