His father was one of the victims of
1908 in Adana. His moter, being unable to support her children, gave her two
daughters to an orphanage in Constantinople and until the exile she was in
communication with them. In the year 1915 she was deported with her two sons.
They reached Katma, there Hovagim’s older brother fled to Aleppo, while he with
his mother were sent further on to Ras-el-Ain. On the road his mother was left
behind, but Hovagim was pushed forward, so that, having lost his mother he passed
with the caravan through the towns Nisibin, Djezir, Peshabir etc. On their way
many of them were giving their clothes to the Kürds in exchange of bread. In
the village Bizen, a Kürd (Mohe-Sofi) took Hovagin to his house and kept him 12
years. His master was kind to him but some Armenian passangers advised him
always to return to his own nation. Being persuaded in this way, he passed to
Mousoul, whence to us.
