Mayrig with her parents, one brother and one sister were
exiled in the direction of Mosoul.
On the road her father was killed,
her mother was taken by the Arabs and brother fled away in order to save his
life. She, with her sister reached Mosoul, where the caravan encamped outside
the city. Being by and by exposed to the attacks of Arabs and Kürds she and her
sister came into the possession of the Kürds.
Mayrig lived 12 years with a man named Sultan-el-Ali who belonged to the
tribe 'Djebour'.
When she grew up, his master gave
her to an Arab in exchange of two cows and 12 Turkish Pounds.
Our agent in Hassitshe was informed
about Mayrig but he could not help the poor girl, yet, one day, to perform his
duty, he attempted the dangerous work and went into the Savage tribe, though
too late, while she was married since five days, but yet he succeeded in
arranging her escape and sending her to us.
