In the beginning of the Armenian massacres her father was killed. Varde was deported to Ras-el-Ain. A gendarm from Mardin took her to his house, kept her several days and later sold her to a Turkish officer who married her by force.

She went with her husband to Diarbekir and later they went to Urfa. After two years they returned to Mardin.

Varde wanted to return to her nation but she could not flee having nobody who would help her. Once her husband received an order to come to Angora. He left Varde at home and went. During his absence she saw the Armenian priest a couple of times and he promised to help her. The priest made the necessary arrangements with a muleteer and sent her to our Hassitshe agent, from where she was sent to us.
