Novart was exiled with her
parents to Mardin. On the road her parents were killed and she alone reached
Mardin with the caravan. There an Arab, named Abdullah took her to his house
and married her by force. She remained 12 years with the Arab. One day an
Armenian tailoress, named Khatun came on business to her house and seeing
Novart, she recognized her. Later, the woman informed the priest (our agent)
who succeeded in arranging Novart’s escape and in due time he sent her to our
rescue-home in Aleppo.
