Mariam's husband was killed during the deportations. She herself was exiled with her two children. On the road a Kourd took her by force to his village named Miadoon. Mariam lived seven years with the Turk being his wife.

When Armenians and Greeks were allowed to leave Turkey the priest of the village notified her to make herself ready to go with the caravan to Aleppo. A few days later her husband went to one of the environing villages in business. Mariam fled with her children to the priest's house and they started in the morning their journey. When her husband returned home and found that Mariam had gone he telegraphed to all the major cities that she has stolen 200 Pounds. The caravans were hold up but nobody could find the 200 Pounds. In fact, Mariam had not stolen the money but the Turk made his calumny so the government might send her back. All refugees took good care of her on the road and she finally reached this city.
