Her father was killed with other men of the some town in the beginning of the Armenian massacre organized by the Turkish government. Her mother and two elder brothers were deported while Maritza was adopted in a Turkish family as their child. After five years had passed the Turk wanted to marry Maritza. She refused in the beginning but the Turk forced her to accept.

Maritza married the policeman and lived four years with him being his wife. Maritza was unhappy in her marriage and looked for an opportunity to flee. Once her husband was called by the government to Angora and he went. A few days later she fled to an Armenian family and from there started her journey to Djirablous. There her money was all.
