In
the wartime Varter's husband was taken as a soldier, brought to Erzerum and
disappeared. Varter came on the road with her mother and a brother. Three
months they were driven to and fro. Near Urfa Kurds attacked the caravan and
robbed even their clothes they carried in their body were taken. The mother one
day disappeared. An Arab took Varter and her brother to his house in Hasankale.
He was a good man, who treated them well, but his wife was a bad woman.
Therefore the Arab brought Varter to another village. There she met with an
Armenian, whom she married. Varter's husband was one day thrown in prison, and
she fled with her two children to Aleppo.
