Mariam was deported with her family to Palou, there her father was killed and the rest of the family was sent to Diarbeker. She was taken away from her mother and brought to a Turkish family where she lived 7 years as the maid-servant of the house.
When permission to travel came for Armenians, some of her relatives came from Harpoot. They were going to Aleppo. One of them went to Mariam's master and asked him to permit Mariam to join their party. The Turk agreed and so she could come to Aleppo.
Mariam's uncle Malghas and her brother Zaven Derderian are in Constantinople.
She has also an uncle named Persegh Derderian in America.
