PICTURE

Mariam's husband was taken to the Turkish army and a few days later she was deported with the Armenians of her town. After a walk of several hours a Kurd from her village came and took her to his house.

The Kurd married her by force and she escaped one year afterwards to the chief man's house. However, her husband knew where she was and he went and took her back. Mariam lived eight years with him but could not flee. Once she went to Malatia to see one of her Armenian friends. There she was informed that a Turkish muleteer was smuggling Armenians over the frontier. Mariam did not return but paid the money to the Turk who took her to Djerablus. There she met our agent who sent her to us.

As far as we know she has no relatives.

Mariam is always sick and cannot work.
