Sarkis was a rather big up
boy, when the order of deportation came. He came on the road with his parents,
two brothers and a sister. His father soon was taken away and killed with many
other Armenian men.
The caravan went on, and by
and by his mother, brothers and sister were robbed by Arabs. He himself also
one day was taken away by an Arab, who kept him 10 years as a shepherd and
farmer.
The Arabs had always told him
that all Armenians were killed, and he believed so. One day, however, an
Assyrian shepherd came to the village where Sarkis lived. He told him about our
home and that many Armenians were living in Aleppo. He asked permission of his
master, who allowed him to go to us.
