Vartan's mother died one year before the deportation. His
father was in the beginning of the Great War thrown in prison and disappeared.
Vartan was exiled with his aunt and a sister. Near Malatia a Kurd, who knew his
father, came and brought all of them to his village. They were rather well
treated. The Kurd married the aunt. Vartan's sister died after a year. After
ten years Vartan went back to his native town Malatia, where he met with his
cousin, who was a servant by a Turk. That man also took Vartan in his house as
a servant and he stayed there till he now was exiled with many other Armenians.
