Sarkis' parents were very poor and so they gave him before the war to a man in Oroul. At that time Sarkis was 3 years old. He lived with his stepparents until 1915. The deportation order was given and he was exiled with his stepparents to Biredjik. After his stepparents died he had absolutely nobody and he returned to Oroul where he found a place as a servant in a Turkish house. Sarkis remained 7 years there. As he was always treated very badly he could not endure it any longer and he fled to Aintab. After a few days he came to Aleppo.

Sarkis could not adapt himself to the life in the city and ran away very soon.
