Vartouhi's father was killed in Malatia and he was deported with the family. In Samsat her sister was taken by a Kourd, the others died on the road, she alone reached Biredjik where she was brought to a harem.

            Finally she succeeded in fleeing from the harem and found a shelter in the Armenian church until she could be sent to Aleppo.

Vartouhi found her relatives and went to Damascus to live with them.
