Garabed is born in a village near Marash. When the war broke out, the Armenians were partly killed and partly deported. Garabed's parents and relatives were all killed, and he himself deported. He reached Mardin, where an Arab took him in his tent. Garabed was then five years old. He was happy now to get enough to eat. Many months he had suffered from hunger and thirst. He was often illtreated and fled to another tent, where he stayed many years as a servant. 

            Garabed was always longing to join his own people and one day a chauffeur brought him to us.
