During the deportation Garabed's
father was serving in the Turkish army. He came on the road with his mother. On
reaching Mardin a Kurd of that city took his mother to his house and married
her by force. Garabed remained several months with his mother working in the garden.
One day his master beat him with a spade on the head upon which the poor buy
lost his left eye. He fled to another village and entered to a Kurdish house as
a servant. After a time he got a chance to reach Aleppo. He came to us and we
took him in.
