Hadji Marie was deported in 1915 with her parents, her
sisters, and her brother. It took them months of tiresome wandering until they
reached Hassitshe. Where her brother died from starvation. After a few days
rest they had to continue their way, this time to Tel Roman. On the road a
Turkish gendarm came and took Hadji Marie out of the caravan and promised her
to bring her people to his house if she consented to go with him. Near
Ras-el-Ain he violated and forced her to marry him. Poor girl, she never saw
her parents. Hadji Marie was living until now with this gendarm in Deir-el-Zor.
A few ago she heard that her brother is alive in Hassitshe. Our agent succeeded
in making her free.
Left our care: October 10,
1927. Selfsupporting, servant.
