Her father was killed, her mother, two sisters and she herself were deported to the region of Rakka. From there the caravan was directed toward Urfa. Zumroot and her mother hid themselves in a pit under the ground until the caravan had disappeared. After this they went to Hassiche and found a shelter in a mill. Soon afterwards her mother became ill and died. Arabs came and found her in the mill. They took her to the village and one of them married her. Four months later she was sold for five sheep to another Arab with whom she lived eight years.

A Turkish carriage driver was passing there, by chance he talked with her, telling her that he was an Armenian and that he would save her from the Arabs if she wanted to marry him. Zumroot believed in his words and went with him to Rakka. Arriving there she was told by Armenians that the man was a Turk and not an Armenian. Zumroot fled the same night from her new husband and went to an Armenian family. She was kept there for several days and later she was sent to our Reception house.
