His father was killed during the insurrection of the city. Roopen fled and hid himself in the fields and looked for a chance to flee to another town. A Kourd followed him, in a few minutes he located him and wanted to kill him. Another Kurd came and protected him and took him to his house.
Roopen was working for his Kourdish master. When the Russian army occupied this region he was deported with the Kourd to Diarbekir. After 3 years the Kourd became very poor and he could not keep him any longer. Roopen went to another house and worked four years there. Once walking in the town, he met his mother and recognized her. The same night he fled to her, a few days afterwards both fled to Aleppo.
Roopen was received in the Near East Relief orphanage.
