In the time when Cilicia was given back to the Turks many
Armenians fled to Syria. So also Heripsime with her brother Kevork and her
sister Sarah. They reached Beirut. Her parents remained in Adana. Her sister
was soon married in Beirut and Heripsime and her brother went to Damascus. As
he could not find work there, he entered as a soldier in the French army,
leaving Heripsime without any protection. In the rebellion of the Druze many
people fled from Damascus. Heripsime was among those put on the road an Arab
Mouhammed Keblemi lay hold of her and brought [her to Aleppo?].
