Her father was a priest in the
Gregorian church. In the beginning of the war he was thrown in prison and
tortured so dreadfully that he one night died under the hand of his tormentors.
Gadar came on the road with her mother and brother.
The caravan reached Mardin. There an
Arab wanted to drag her mother away with him. She did not want, he got angry,
took his gun and shot her in the breast. She died immediately. Gadar went
further on with the caravan. The same day she was taken by an Arab sheikh,
chief of a tribe, by name Garim-el-Anzar. This man was from a village named
Karmi. She does not know what became of her brother. She lived with that man as
his wife ten years, then the sheikh sold her to another sheikh named Musa. One
year she stayed with her second possessor.
A Syrian Christian once saw her and
helped her to flee to an Armenian Catholic priest in Mardin. That man kept her
for some days till he was able to send her per Motor-car to us.
