In the beginning of the deportation
Garabed was exiled with his mother, one brother and one sister to Aleppo. When
they reached Azaz, an Arab took Garabed away from his mother. The rest of the
family reached Aleppo, there his mother, with the help of a relative, found her
chance to flee with her children to Beirut, then, she passed to Greece. As to
Garabed, he lived only a few months with his owner in Azaz, then he fled to an
Armenian caravan which was passing to Deir-el-Zor. On reaching there the poor
boy was taken by an Arab to his village, where he had to work for him, being
continually punished, scolded and ill-treated. One day our agent was informed
about Garabed, he pitied him and succeeded to sent him to Aleppo. Thus, issuing
from utter misery he entered upon life, but alas, that the poor boy had lost
his sanity.
We have located his mother in Greece and now trying to send him to
his mother.
