After his father's death, he was exiled with his mother, elder brother, and sister to Karadjia Dagh. His mother and brother became ill and both died there. His sister was dragged away from him and brought to a Turkish harem.

Kaspar was taken to a Kourdish family where he lived three years being their farmer. His master became very ill and his wife was too poor so she could not keep Kaspar any longer. Kaspar left the Kourdish family and went to Severek looking for a work so he might be able to earn bis bread. There he entered in a Turkish house and became a servant. He remained four years there.

Kaspar was anxious to learn a trade and also anxious to get back to his nation. He wanted to flee but he had to wait for a chance. One day some muleteers were going to Aleppo, he followed them and reached this city on May 30.

Kaspar found his uncle and went to live with him.
