Ovsanna's father died before
the deportation, he was a soldier in the Turkish Army. Her mother was serving
as a nurse in the Turkish hospital of Urfa. Ovsanna was exiled with her aunt
and 2 brothers in the direction of Der-el-Zor. When the caravan had to go
further on, her aunt left Ovsanna by an Arab gendarm in Meadin (a town near
Der-el-Zor) in order to save her life. Thus, she was separated from her
relatives.
Ovsanna lived in Meadin 11
years as a member of the Arab's family. When she grew up, her master determined
to marry her to an Arab. Meantime, her mother in Aleppo, took information about
Ovsanna and hurried to ask our aid to rescue her daughter. With the assistance
of our agent, she went to Meadin saw Ovsanna and begged the Arab to give back
her daughter. Ovsanna's master pitied and consented to her mother's request, then,
mother and daughter reached us safely. Ovsanna also, as many others, has lost
her national language.
