Victoria's father died before
the deportation. She was exiled with her mother and three brothers to
Deir-el-Zor. On the road her mother became ill and died. Near Ras-el-Ain the
Kurds attacked the caravan. Most of the people were robbed and killed, her
three brothers included. A Kurd of Ras-el-Ain, a former friend of Victoria's
father protected her, taking her to his village near the same town. The Kurd
had no children by his former wife. When Victoria grew up, he married her. She
lived with him till he was killed by Kemalists during the Kurdish rebellion in
1925-26. Then she came to Ras-el-Ain and asked the help of our agent who sent
her to us.
