Her mother's first husband was from Adiaman. He came with her to Aleppo with the intention to go to Jerusalem, but suddenly he became ill and died. After six months her mother married Vartouhi's father.
Vartouhi was a little child when the Armenian deportation began. They went all to Biredjik but life was getting more and more expensive and work more and more difficult [to] find. The whole family was suffering. Vartouhis' father became ill and died. Her mother was so short of money that she could not support her and so she gave her to a Turk.
After the Armistice, when Armenians were allowed to leave Turkey, she took Vartouhi from the Turk and came to Aleppo.
Being unable to support herself, Vartouhi was admitted in our Reception house.
