Zarife does not remember anything
about her dear ones. She can but tell how she stayed in the hut of a Beduin
with whom she had to live many years. She was ill-treated and many times she
tried to flee, but was always caught and brought back again. Recently, she
succeeded in reaching Aleppo. The poor girl had suffered terribly from fright
upon the road, so much so that she had become crazy. She is a little more quiet
now, but her reason is still not clear. Zarife was distracted, but she
recovered, she is now living in Beirut as a servant.
