Shoushan was a little girl when she was deported with her
parents and her sister to the district of Diarbekir. She does not remember any
details. The knowledge she has about the events of that time, she acquired from
her aunt who is living with a Turk in Mardin. On their way to Mardin a Turk
named Mohammed Ali, took her from the arms of the imploring mother and went
away. Shoushan later on was married to the Turk's nephew. After three months
she could not support this existence any longer. She had too much work and too
scanty food. Her husband illtreated her and called her always: "daughter
of an unbeliever." Shoushan was tired of this kind of life. She understood
that she must become a Muslim or find the way back to the Christian world. The
experiences she had made with the Turks enabled her to take a decision. She
fled and found our agent in Mardin who sent her immediately to Hassitshe. Once there
she was in Syrian territory and free to travel. She was sent by our agent to
the Rescue-Home. Shoushan is not right in her mind.
She went as a servant September 13, 1928. In
1929 she came back sick. She has had many operations. In the spring 1930 she
was given to the hostel "Friends of Armenia."
