Markar was deported with his family to Rakka. During the long journey he lost his four sisters on the road. His old parents could not endure the restless walks. They became ill and died soon after their arrival in Rakka.

            An Arab of the tribe of Aneze took Markar to his tent and kept him for eight years there. Markar was doing the work of a shepherd for all the time.

            When he heard that there are Armenians in Aleppo, he fled to Der-el-Zor. Armenians protected him against the Arabs, and later they sent him directly to our Reception house here in Aleppo.

As far as we know he has no relatives.
