Mariam's father and brothers were killed by the Turks. There
was a regular massacre in their village. Mariam's aunt fled by night with her
and her own daughter. Somehow she protected the two little girls until they
were received in an orphanage in Mardin. Mariam stayed there several years, but
when it was closed, a Turk married her. She had to stay with him several years,
until our agent helped her to flee over the frontier to us.
Left our care: April 1,
1928. Living with relatives in Aleppo.
We gave her a little help in
the beginning.
