His father died before the deportation. The rest of the family was banished to Maden. On the road a Kourd threw him into a passing river: Within a few minutes Vahan was driven to the bank of the other side. He could not see his family. Another Kourd came and helped him out of the river, took him home and made a farmer of him. Vahan lived seven years with the Kourd working for him without any pay. Tchermoog, the Kourd's village, is not far away from Arabkir, Vahan fled to Arabkir joined a party of leaving emigrants and came with them to Aleppo.
