Said was too young when his father
died, so that he cannot recollect him now. He came on the road with his mother
and sister. Near Mardin a Kurd from the village Haremhadde took him to his
house. In this way he was separated from his mother and sister. He never got
news about them. He lived eleven years with his master Mohammed Ali, during
that time being treated as a slave. On one occasion he went to the village
Tchatal near the Syrian frontier where he met with some Armenian soldiers
serving in the French army. They recognized the boy and helped him to reach
Hassitshe, whence by our agent he was sent to us.
