PICTURE 3

Zarouhi's father was a soldier in the Turkish army and was killed there when she was deported with her mother. Her mother married a Kourd in a village named Tshor Keuy and both remained there. After two years her mother became ill and died. Zarouhi became the servant of the house and remained 5 years more there.

Zarouhi was growing up and the Kourd wanted to marry her. An Armenian young man wanted to save her from the Kourd's house but he was afraid being the only Christian in the town. A few months later the young man came to Aleppo. Not long afterwards he was informed that the Kourd had married her. He engaged a Turkish muleteer, paid him the expenses for the journey of the girl and brought her in this way to Aleppo. Having no relatives here in Aleppo, she was sent to us.
