PICTURE

Vartivar's family was deported with Zeytoon people to the Syrian desert. Near Kara-Tepe men were separated from their families and killed. Women and children were sent to Kara-Tepe. Vartivar was separated from his relatives and taken to a Turkish family where he was kept nine years as a servant.

After the Armistice he heard that there are Armenians still alive. He fled at night from the Turkish house and smuggled himself into the train going to Bagdad. He had a success and arrived safely in Bagdad. In the city he located his aunt. He lived seven months with her there and came afterwards with her to Aleppo.

By and by his aunt became too poor to support him and she sent him away. Having no other relatives he came to us and we took him in.
