Hagop's fate has been quite different from most of the
other people coming to our house. One day when he in the beginning of the
deportation was playing with some other boys in the street, they suddenly were
caught by some gendarms and driven towards an unknown direction, together with
many other Armenians. We understand how dreadful it may have been for the poor
little chaps to be taken away from their relatives. Hagop does not know what
became of his parents, brothers and sisters.
The caravan went on and on into Arabia, they passed
Hedjas, Mekka, Djiddad and Yambo. An Arab one day dragged Hagop away with him
to his tent, and he became a slave by that man.
He never forgot his mother tongue. When he was guarding
the sheep in the desert he spoke Armenian with them. One day he heard that some
Armenians still were living in Urfa, he then fled and reached Deir-el-Zor.
There our agent informed him about our rescue-home and persuaded him to be sent
there.
Left our care: July 25,
1927. Selfsupporting.
