Shortly before the beginning of the Great War, Osgui was
married with an Armenian from Biredjik. During the war her husband became a
soldier. He was sent to the trenches, where he died of his wounds. In the
meantime Osgui's parents were deported to Syria, but she knew nothing about it.
Conditions in Turkey became more and more difficult. The famine was knocking on
almost every door. Osgui was suffering hunger. Her neighbour, a Turk, asked her
in marriage. Hunger and fear obliged her to say: "yes," but only too
soon she repented it. The Turk's first wife ill-treated her daily, she beated
her. When Osgui tried to protect herself, her husband came and ill-treated her
too. Osgui was looking for a chance to flee. She lately heard that her father
was living in Syria. After years of suffering and servitude, she fled to
Djerablus and met our agent there who sent her right to our Reception-House.
