During the deportation the whole family was exiled from Amasia to Deir-el-Zor. On reaching Tokad, he lost his father. His mother died in Surudj. Arriving at Biredjik he was separated from his brother and sister. His possessor brought him to Nizib. The Turk was an innkeeper. Vertanes lived there working eleven years for him without any payment. In the latest Kurdish rebellion, profiting from an opportunity, he fled and reached to Djerablus from where our agent sent him to us. In the course of eleven years he heard but one of his sister, a widow of an Arab. We shall try to locate his sister now.
