Haroutioun
was born of a rich family of Erzoroum. When the deportation started his family
was sent with the caravan and never returned back. He, himself was kept by a
Turk in his native town.
His
master, by keeping the boy in his house, intended to have the hereditary right
of their property. A few years later he sent Haroutioun to a school in
Constantinapoles. During all that time he did not forget his being an Armenian
and once, when the teacher in general history lesson attacked the Armenian
Nation by some inadmisable words, Haroutioun got angry and decided to return to
his own nation and one day he took permission to go to his relaives in Adana,
from there he passed to Killis, whence he arranged his escape and reached
Syrian territory.
Being
unable to support himself we took him in.
