Haiganoush's
father was taken to the Turkish army. The poor mother came on the road with her
two little ones. They suffered dreadfully on the road.
At length they reached Mardin.
There an Arab took them all in his tent.
A few months afterwards he
wanted to sell Haiganoush's mother to another Arab. Therefore she fled in the
night. When Haiganoush awoke in the morning and did not see her mother she also
fled and came in a Kourdish village, where she remained many years.
She never forgot her mother
and several times she tried to flee but was always fetched by her master.
One day, however, she
succeeded in getting away with some muleteers who brought her to Hassitshe.
From there our agent sent her to our rescue-home in Aleppo.
