The whole family was deported together. On their way to
Diarbekir, the mother became ill and died not far from that town. A few days
after the deportation caravan was driven further on. As soon as they were out
of town, men were separated and tied together with each other and massacred in
front of these poor women and children. Sarkis out of fear ran without knowing
where to, when he came to himself he found himself in the house of a Kurd. He
was well treated but he had to work hard. When he was 17 years old, they wanted
to marry him with a Kurdish woman and Islamize him. Sarkis was afraid of all
this and fled over the frontier. There he met our agent who helped him to get
to our rescue-home in Aleppo.
